W20 Brazil Handbook 2024

“As Brazil assumed the presidency of the G20 in 2024, the W20 Brazil Delegation was honored to lead an agenda focused on advancing gender equality and women’s economic empowerment. Our work prioritized critical issues impacting women worldwide, such as the care economy, climate justice, gender-based violence, women’s entrepreneurship and women’s participation in STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics). These themes formed the foundation of policies aimed at creating a more just and sustainable future for all, with an emphasis on addressing intersectional barriers related to race and ethnicity. Together, we endeavored to ensure that women from all backgrounds are included in this journey toward equity.”

Ana Fontes
Chair of W20 Brazil

“Throughout this year, W20 Brazil has carried forward the nine-year legacy of the W20, advocating within the G20 framework for women’s empowerment and gender equality. More than 130 W20 delegates from diverse backgrounds, representing G20 member countries, were organized into working groups aligned with the presidency’s priorities. These groups developed recommendations and highlighted best practices, culminating in the official communiqué delivered during the Summit.

In addition, W20 Brazil hosted seven National Dialogues across the country—in Rio de Janeiro, Brasília, Recife, Curitiba, Salvador, Belém, and São Paulo. These dialogues provided vital platforms to capture diverse local perspectives, ensuring they informed and shaped our recommendations.

Through this collective effort, we aimed to ensure that G20 leaders not only acknowledge but take decisive action to address the unique challenges faced by women and girls. Our work has been dedicated to building an inclusive and sustainable foundation that advances gender equality and strengthens the W20’s impact in future G20 presidencies.”
